Edgar Stanaland was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, mentor, and preacher of the gospel. He was born December 15, 1941, the youngest of five, to Edgar Wallace and Bertie Green Stanaland in Nacogdoches, TX, where he was raised and received his formal education. On August 9, 1981, he married Linda Brannon, and to this union, 7 children were united. He attended South Side Baptist Church in Nacogdoches, before becoming a pastor at Good Shepard Church in Nacogdoches. Edgar worked for Stephen F. Austin University for 17 years as a painter and owned a garage where he painted and did body work on cars.
Edgar never met a stranger. He loved to joke and talk to everyone he met. Edgar had a fierce love for his family as well as the good Lord above. He will be remembered for his many talks and debates about the Lord. He would talk to anyone that would listen about his love for God and how God had changed his life. When Edgar wasn’t with his family and his beloved dog, Sweet Pea, he could be found in his shop doing woodwork or riding the mower in the yard. Edgar was a hardworking man that devoted himself to taking care of his wife and family. Edgar proved himself to be a mentor to anyone that was in need, and lead many people to the Lord. While there is a hole that his death has left for the family, we have no doubt that “Great is His Reward”. He is preceded in death by parents Edgar and Bertie Stanaland, son Timothy Stanaland, sister Barbara Heflin, and brother Joe Stanaland. He is survived by sons Jeff and wife Kim Stanaland of Elkhart, Lloyd and wife Melissa Conway of Cushing, and self-adopted son Billy Boozer of Slocum; daughters Tracy and husband Dale Taylor of Nacogdoches, Melissa and husband Cody Wilkins of Marshall, Jackie, and husband Marty of Woden, Stacy and wife Venissia of San Antonio; sisters Ruth Dale of Beaumont, Louise Stanfield of Douglas, fifteen (15) grandchildren and ten (10) great-grandchild.
