Cory DeShane Murphy was born October 30, 1985 to the late Vernon Wayne Murphy and Debra Tillis in Madisonville, TX. He attended school in Crockett and graduated from Groveton High School. He was very outgoing and loved football. During his time at Groveton High Cory received many awards and high achievements in football including All State Line Backer in 2004 and earned a college football scholarship to Kilgore College. At an early age he accepted Christ and was baptized where he attended Union Chapel Church. He later joined County Line Baptist Church where he was called into the ministry under the leadership of Rev. Elliott Marshall. He went on to pastor at Wheeler Springs Baptist Church in Crockett, TX.
Cory loved to sing and write his own songs. He loved his children and never met a stranger.
Cory was preceded in death by his father Vernon Murphy, his son Cory Murphy Jr., and daughter A’Coryiah Murphy.
Left to cherish his memory is his mother Debra Tillis, daughters Brayniah Murphy, Brayshiah Murphy, and Brayla Horace, brother Herbert Davis and wife Sherika, sisters Vernetrial Davis and husband Aaron, Desilene Davis, Shabonnie Williams, Shawana Brown, 5 step brother, and 4 step sisters, grandmother Dessie Baylone from Tyler, TX and Georgia Murphy of Crockett, TX. Cory also leaves behind 2 grandchildren, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
