On July 13, 1953, a precious baby boy was born in Bryan, Texas, to the proud parents, Louise Pierson and Joe Gaston. He was the first and only child to this union. At a young age, Curtis along with his siblings moved to the Grapeland/Augusta Community.
By age 9, Curtis began working at Darsey’s Grocery Store, sacking groceries, and later becoming a butcher. As a young man, he had many careers to support his family, working briefly at Vulcraft and later the United States Marine Corps, where he proudly served two terms and returned home with an Honorable Discharge. After returning home he began working for P. Chem Chemicals, Inc., in Latexo, Texas, for 20 years.
Curtis met, fell in love and married the love of his life, Eva Davis, and to this union four children were born: Janice, Curtis, Jr., Steven, and Antionette.
Curtis loved being in good company! He enjoyed singing, playing his guitar, spending time with family and friends and working in his yard and garden.
The Lord came as a thief in the night to take his son home on September 12, 2018.
Curtis will be greatly missed by all who knew him and especially for his world famous homemade chopped beef BBQ. In late 2008, Curtis began his journey seeking the Lord. He began at Rising Star Baptist Church and later joined House of Prayer where he served until he passed.
Curtis is preceded in death by both parents; brother, Edward Petty; sister, Mary Shepherd; niece, Melissa Dodd; and great-niece, Latashia Hazley.
Left to cherish the good times are his children: Steven Chapman and Antionette (Chris) Burkins, both of Grapeland, Texas, and Janice Chapman and Curtis (Jesscia) Chapman, Jr., both of Elkhart, Texas; ex-wife, Eva Chapman of Grapeland, Texas; twelve grandkids, Porshia, Aaliyah, Christopher, Christianna, Michael, Felix, Jahmia, Curtis III, Jayden, Jordan, and Kaleb; brothers, Willie Joanne) Pierson, Greg (Iesha) Hazley, Charles (Kathy) Hazley) Johnnie Pierson, and George Ray Pierson (Ruth), all of Grapeland, Texas; brothers and sisters-in-love, Leon Davis, Paul Davis, Jeff Davis, Jimmy Davis, Marilyn, Genora, Shirley, Fay, and Mary, all of Grapeland, Texas; mother-in-love, Inez Davis of Grapeland, Texas; special nieces, Valeria Hazley, Anette Hazley, and Sherrell McCoy; godson, Rodney McDaniel of Trinity, Texas; and a host of other family and friends.
