Navy

Guy L. Stapleton, 78, of Crockett, Texas, son, brother, husband, father, and friend, passed away after a long illness on June 15, 2026.

Of all the roles he played in life, he relished most, in his words, “being an ornery SOB and general pain in the ass.” He was also a vibrant social butterfly. He could make people laugh hysterically just as easily as exasperate them.

Guy enlisted in the U.S. Navy and proudly served in Vietnam, saying of his crewmates, “They were the bravest and best SOBs I was honored to serve with.” While serving, he also attended the University of Texas, earning his Jurisprudence and then promptly deciding not to pursue a law career. His real dream was to become a premier male exotic dancer, but he lacked any rhythm, thus being an embarrassment to his Catholic upbringing.

Guy is survived by his wife, Carrie, for whom he was awarded the Golden Beer Bottle Award as the only man in Texas who could match Carrie’s fire and even get her to shut up for 5 minutes… once.

Guy is also survived by his two sons, Grant Stapleton (Samantha) and Guy Daniel Stapleton; his two siblings, John Stapleton (Stephanie) and Lee Stapleton-Rieger (Kenny); plus 1 niece, 2 nephews, and numerous cousins. He is preceded in death by his beloved parents.

A celebration of his life/memorial gathering will be held on

I was a year behind Guy at Stephen F Austin and sorta new to the Island. I was walking down a neighborhood and there was this guy behind a white picket fence : He looks up at me and says "Hi, Guy!" : and forever from that moment I have been sealed within Galveston's Heart : and Guy's Eternal Memory.
