Joseph Smith, Jr., also known as Joe, was born December 15, 1953, to Joseph (Big) and Vernita Smith. Joseph received his GED and enlisted in the Army at the age of 18. Joseph is known to many by his love for music, cars, big tires and some good barbecue. Joseph has worked for several oil companies, TDCJ-Powledge Unit as a sergeant of corrections, Transportation Officer, sergeant of Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, and of course his passion which was being the DJ at Friend’s Night Club.
On April 17, 2020, God called Joseph home. He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Vernita Smith; his grandparents, Buddy Boy and Josie Smith, Joel and Antonio Smith; his siblings, James Earl Smith, Lawrence Smith, Cliff Smith, Louis Ray Smith, Buddy Joe Murray and Wanda (Tut) Farris; and his nephew, Bobby Joe Murray.
He is survived by his kids; sisters, Vernel Smith and Alice Smith (Palestine, Texas), Daretha Smith (Irving, Texas) and Dianne Douglas (Lamarque, Texas); and a host of nieces and nephews.
Joseph Smith will be missed by his children, family and friends.
