Larry Gene Walker was the ninth child born to Jeff and Dora Mae Hatter Walker on April 11, 1958, in Grapeland, Texas. Educated in Grapeland Public Schools, he was a proud member of the community. Larry met and married Lee Ethel Rose, and to this union, his loving daughter Erica Walker was born.
Larry was a member of The House of Prayer under the leadership of Reverend Jerome Simpson. Employed at Broken C Ranch where he worked for 21 years, Larry was a trusted hand.
Larry possessed the ability to utilize his vast array of mechanical skills to repair just about anything. As an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, working livestock and entertaining family and friends. He also had a knack for cooking and was willing to feed anyone at any time. He was known for his ability to cook for a multitude and would often ask to borrow a pot that was “a foot deep.” All of his parties and events leave lasting memories. His wit was uncanny, his love was unwavering, and his jokes could always brighten the day. He will always be remembered as a man who had a big heart who could bring a smile to anyone’s face.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jeff and Dora Walker, brothers Jeff Walker Jr. and John Riley Walker and a daughter Latonya Rose.
Survivors include 3 daughters; Erica (Switzerland) Nelson of Lancaster, TX, Debza Terry of Killeen, TX and Demetria McKelvey of Amhurst, TX and 9 grandchildren, 4 brothers; McArther (Jutta) Walker, Eddie B. (Esther) Walker, Kent (Stephanie) Walker all of Grapeland, TX and Edward (Juliette) Grice III of Los Angeles, CA. 9 sisters; Linda (William) Murphy of Dallas, TX and Ellen Shepherd, Mary (Elbert) Lomax, Shirie (Eugene) Taylor, Francis Phillips, Alphia (Vidar) Steinsbo all of Grapeland and Marietta Woodard of Elkhart, TX, Linda (Jeffrey) Lynch of Glendale, CA and Edwina (Bill) Neely of Silver Springs, MD. A loving friend Gerthie Blanton of Lufkin, TX and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
