Lawrence Steven Powell

Lawrence Steven Powell (Shorty) was born on January 6, 1955, in Crockett, Texas, to JL and Windola (Mims) Powell. He passed away at home in Mt. Enterprise, Texas, on June 27, 2025.

He spent most of his life in Houston and later joined the United States Navy, where he served four years.

In his own words, he did not want to be remembered as a saint or the best dad, but most children think theirs was.

If he was not fishing somewhere, he could be found tinkering and making something out of wood. He was always full of jokes and couldn’t wait to pick on any and all of us.

He is survived by his Daughters, Amanda Smith, and Husband, Michael of San Antonio, Tx., LeAnn Cooper and Husband, Peewee of Mt. Enterprise, Tx.; Son, Jacob Powell, and Wife, Michelle of Hewitt, Tx.; Grandchildren, Caleb Smith and Wife Seirra, Isabella Smith, Arianna Goode and Fiance Andy Gibson, Delylah Cooper, Kayla Lavender, Zachary and Wife Savanah Lavender; Sister, Cindy Powell Broadstreet and boys; Special Daughter, Shellie Bradford and Great Grandchildren, Kohnnar Smith, Olivia, Elainah, and Aubrey Lavender.

He was preceded in death by his parents, JL and Windola Mims Powell; Grandson, Johnny Lee Ellis Jr.; and Special Lady, Charlotte Taylor.
