Margaret McKnight Hogan

Margaret was born September 29, 1927, in Lovelady, Texas, Houston County to Boyd and Pearlie McKnight.

She had six brothers and one sister: Leo., J.D., Gary B., Willie B., J.T., W.D., and Emma McKnight.

Margaret and her siblings walked three miles to school every day. Margaret graduated from Lovelady High School. After graduation, she worked at various jobs. Including the Weingarten Store in Houston.

Margaret attended Mt. Olive Church faithfully and was baptized in a creek at the age of 11.

Margaret married in 1958 to Steve Odom, her first marriage was not equally yoked. Margaret moved to Sacramento, California in 1960 and subsequently united in marriage to Deacon Jim Hogan in 1964. She was the apple of his eye. The couple would drive to Texas every year for the fourth Sunday in August to celebrate Mt. Olive’s Homecoming. After the death of her husband Jim, the trips to Texas became less frequent.

Margaret was employed at Sacramento Medical Clinic for 34 years.

Margaret joined Shiloh Baptist Church on September 1, 1960, under the leadership of Pastor Willie Cook, over 30 years until his death. Margaret faithfully continued serving God at Shiloh under Pastor Anthony, Sadler.

Margaret served on the Senior Usher Board, was Assistant Supervisor for the Junior Usher Board, and attended Sunday School faithfully where she served as class Assistant Secretary.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, seven siblings, and her husband, Jim Hogan.

Margaret entered into eternal rest with a smile, being the last sibling of Boyd and Pearlie’s family tree at the age of 95 years old.

Those left to cherish her legacy memories: her special nephew whom she says, “My sister Emma gave birth to him, but I claim him as my son, William (Winnie)”, and their two daughters, Brittany McKnight Taylor (Quin and daughter, Jordynne), Chelsey McKnight McCain (Lee and Son Major); a host of nephews, nieces, relatives, and friends.
