Modena was born September 19, 1924 in Grapeland, Texas to Ballard and Mila (Toliver) McDaniel. She grew up in the Reynard community and later moved to the Mt. Zion community, where she attended school.
Modena graduated from W.R. Banks High School, Grapeland, Texas and attended the Adult Education Sewing class at W.R. Banks.
She accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member until death. She was an active member of Mission society and a member of the choir.
She was married to the late Dee Johnson, no children were born. She was a housewife, and worked in private homes of the Daily’s, Shoultz’s, and Long families. She also worked at the Grapeland Hospital and Elkhart Nursing Home.
She enjoyed quilting, feeding and attending to her cows, fishing and her grandchildren.
Modena departed this life on February 27, 2021 at home.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dee Johnson; all 9 siblings and their spouses; step-son Clearance D. Johnson and wife Dorothy; step grandson Marvis (Scooter) Johnson, Clearance Jr. Johnson; step-great-grandson Willie Fransaw (Scooter’s son).
She is survived by her sons; Eugene (Joyce) McDaniel, Albert (Janet) McDaniel both of Grapeland, TX; 7 grandchildren; Angela Renee (Jevon) Shepherd, Spring, TX; Alysia Lyschelle (Amir) Kelley, Arlington, TX; Clifton Eugene (Datha) McDaniel, Houston, TX; Jonathan Lashundra, Conroe, TX, Aurellia Walker, Albert McDaniel, Jr., Brittany Michelle McDaniel, all of Grapeland, TX, 3 step grand-children Mickel (Wanita) Johnson, Sr., Pamela (David) Elam, and Rhonda (Leonard) Pickett, all of Houston, TX; great grandchildren; Clearance D. Johnson’s grandchildren; Jevonte, Shawn, Asha, Braelon, Ashton, Adrian, Keyshawn, Bryce, Jordan, Kennedi, Camryn, Landon, Karter; and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
