Sammie Lee Walker, Jr.

On October 26, 1944, Sammie Lee Walker, Jr., was born to Mr. Sammie Lee Walker, Sr., and Mrs. Magnolia Bonner Walker, of Grapeland, Texas. Sammie was the 3rd out of 8 children. He attended W.R. Banks School. Sammie joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where he sang in the choir and led numerous songs.

He moved to Houston, TX, finishing his education and receiving a certificate in Welding. Sammie has worked for M.D. Anderson and St. Luke’s hospitals, where he met and married his wife Theresa “Brenda” Boutte. Sammie and Brenda had one child that has preceded him in death.

Sammie has also worked for Georgia Steel & Chemical Company, Todd Shipyard, Albermarle Chemical Plant, Ethel Corporation and BP, where he retired after 33 years. Later, he worked in transportation as a school bus driver for Galena Park ISD.

Sammie and Brenda operated an in-home day care center for 12 years. Their love for kids has allowed them to be an important part of the lives for so many children, in particularly Larry, Lorri, Madison, and Garrett, whom they helped raise and love as their very own.

Sammie had many hobbies. He enjoyed traveling with Brenda to different destinations. He loved fishing, hunting, football, basketball, softball, and bowling. His love for these hobbies rewarded him with many tournament trophies. He loved to sing, dance, cook and eat. A few of his favorite dishes were peach cobbler, banana pudding, green beans, and cornbread dressing, cooked by his sister, Addie Pearl.

He is preceded in death by both parents, Mr. Sammie Lee Walker, Sr., and Mrs. Magnolia Bonner Walker; brothers Wilson Walker, Hardin Walker; sister Nolia Mae Savoy.

Sammie leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of 55 years, Brenda; 3 sisters, Addie Pearl Smith, and Lauretta Warfield, both of Grapeland, TX; Carolyn Yates, Houston, TX; 1 brother, Truman (Yvonne) Walker, of Humble, TX; in-law, Carrie Walker of Nacogdoches, TX; 2 aunts, Corine Gaston and Catherine Gaston; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends.
