Savannah Shepherd, daughter of Aggie Campbell and Walter Wilmore was born in Grapeland, TX on October 17, 1924.
Savannah accepted Christ at an early age. After moving to Houston, TX, she joined St. Matthew’s Baptist Church, where she served as President of the Usher Board and was a deaconess. After her husband passed, she joined Greater New Hope Baptist Church in Grapeland, TX until she died.
She married Ben Shepherd in 1940 before moving to Houston and reared one child Virginia Pearl Bryant.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Aggie and George Shepherd, Walter Wilmore; her husband Ben Shepherd; brothers, Walter Wilmore, David Lee Wilmore, Chester I. Wilmore, Ben Arthur Shepherd, Ballard Murphy, Albert D. Murphy, Willie B. Murphy, and James Shepherd; two sisters Yvonne Jones and Emma Stinson.
Savannah loved children and playing bingo with other senior citizens at the senior citizen center. She loved giving advice to others and helping who she could.
Savannah is survived by her daughter, Virginia P. Bryant; one brother John (Francis) Shepherd of Houston, TX; two sisters Velma Wilmore of Houston, TX and Erma (Harold) Stell of Grapeland, TX; three grandsons Cedrick Jackson, Jamone Jackson, and Billy Bryant, Jr.; 2 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
