Thomas "Tommy" Runnels, 75, was born on June 25, 1951, in Crockett, Texas, to the late Roy C. Runnels and Crezette Baker. He was raised in Center Grove, Texas, where he developed the values of hard work, perseverance, and love for family that remained with him throughout his life.
Thomas attended Prairie View A&M University before beginning a career with the Texas Juvenile Justice Department. Through his years of service, he devoted himself to helping others and made a meaningful contribution to his community.
In 2016, Thomas dedicated his life to Jehovah and became one of Jehovah's Witnesses. His faith gave him comfort and hope, and he treasured the Bible's promises throughout the remainder of his life.
Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, Roy C. Runnels and Crezette Runnels; three brothers, Joe Edd Runnels, Willie C. Runnels, and Robert Earl Runnels; and one sister, Betty Johnson.
He leaves to cherish his loving memory his devoted daughter, Tamiyra Hopkins; his four beloved grandchildren, Taj Moffett, Jahi Moffett, Eli Hopkins, and Amari Hopkins; his sister, Margaret Bacon; his brother, Roy C. Runnels Jr.; his uncle, N.L. Runnels; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and cherished friends.
Thomas will be remembered for his quiet strength, his years of dedicated public service, his deep love for his family, and the faith that sustained him. His memory will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
