Vera D. Taylor (83) was the fifth child born to Bailey and Alice Walker Sr. She was born March 10, 1933.
As a young girl growing up she went to Old Zion Church, Grapeland. When she got older, she moved to Lufkin, TX.
In 1954, she became the wife of Mr. J.D. Johnson. She was a homemaker and was a babysitter.
In 1962, she met and married Mr. Robert (Too Tall), Taylor. Later, they moved back to her home town, Grapeland, where she joined Rising Star Baptist Church and worked at Dorothy’s Restaurant until the business closed down.
Vera D. Taylor passed away at home Monday, February 22, 2016.
She is preceded in death by her parents; 7 brothers: Twin boys, Sylvester, Spencer, A.B. Sr., James, and Lorenzo Walker. 2 sisters: LuCindy and Glinda Walker.
She leaves to cherish her memories, 4 children: Cheryl Johnson, Doug (Pat) Johnson, Clida Walker, Robin Black, Grapeland, TX; 2 nephews that she raised as her own sons: Johnny and Sylvester Walker, Houston, TX, 1 brother: Bailey Walker Jr., Grapeland, TX, 5 sisters: Gertrude Morrison, Elwanda Taylor, Lufkin, TX, Jannie Williby, Stella Walker, and Janet Walker, Grapeland, TX. 9 grandchildren: Gemon (Kecia) Johnson, Dezmon Johnson, Patrick Walker, Cassie (Duane) King, Cindy Page, Cedrick Coleman, Donald (Fig) Coleman, Jazmin Walker, Keaundra Harris, and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
Visitation: Friday, February 26, 2016, 5:00 – 7:00 PM Walker & Walker Funeral Home
Service: Saturday, February 27, 2016, 1:00 PM Rising Star Baptist Church.
Interment: Mt. Zion Cemetery Grapeland, TX
