Walter Kent, Jr.


Pastor Walter Kent, Jr. was born on July 17, 1944, to Walter Kent Sr and Berthella Taylor- Kent at Chartity Hospital in New Orleans, La. Raised in McDonoghville, La, he was the eldest of 10 children and was affectionately called “Walter Jr”

Walter Kent was known and loved by many; he was a man with a big smile and loved to eat. He was educated in the Jefferson Parish School System. On June 18, 1960, he married Brenda Broudreaux and to this union, 7 children were born.

Pastor Kent was first baptized in June of 1962 by the late Elder Robert Jones at Bibleway Church Of God In Christ in Harvey, La. As a young man, He took on employment with The Missouri Pacific Railroad Co and worked there for many years in which he traveled a lot and later he met Ms. Ruby Butler and they were soon united in holy matrimony. With this union, he also fathered 5 children.


Pastor Kent obtained numerous employment opportunities that included: Vulcraft (Steel Fabrication & Construction Co.), Wal-Mart, Pilgrim’s Pride: Processing Food Plant, Grapeland ISD as a substitute teacher. He was also skilled at masonry, barbering, and carpentry.


Elder Walter Kent was the proud pastor of Corinth Evangelistic Pentecostal Church in Crockett, TX. He was a member of the S.D.J.E.A., Inc. & E.P.C. (WW), Inc., Alpha B’Eta Omega Messianic Brotherhood, The Emerald Stone of The Breastplate of The Royal Priesthood, A Pilgrim to ISRAEL, The Holy Land and Baptized in the Jordan River.

Pastor Walter R. Kent Jr. transitioned from this life into a life of eternal rest and peace on December 1, 2019 at Palestine Regional Medical Center, Palestine, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Kent Sr. & Berthella Taylor-Kent, brother Grady Kent, daughter Delores Hickman and grandson, Dominique Kent.

He leaves to cherish many great memories his wife of 47 years Missionary Ruby Kent, sons Aaron (Colitha), Tracy, Rodney (Angela), Terris (Pamela) Butler, Troy, Frederick Butler and Russell Coleman. daughters Katrina, LaTonya (Derrick) Reed, Pamela (Bratt) Jackson, Cynthia Butler and spiritual daughter Pastor Brenda Faulk. Brothers Wendolyn (Adell), Marvin (Brenda), Otis (Christina), Campanella (Trudy), Charles Clark (Gail). Sisters Barbara Reece, Vanessa Kent, Yolanda Blackwell and Carmen (Carter) Gordon. Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives, family and friends.


Visitation: Friday, December 6, 2019 Walker & Walker 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM

Service: Saturday, December 7, 2019 Grapeland First United Methodist Church 715 US-287 North Grapeland, TX 11:00 AM

Interment: Gethsemane Gardens Banks, Alabama
