Wilbert Mosley, Jr.

Wilbert Mosley, Jr., affectionately known as “Junebug” and “Lil Dog,” was born on July 23, 1968, in Crockett, Texas, to Mary Ann Howard and Wilbert Mosley Walker.

He spent most of his life in Houston, Texas, where his bold personality, booming laugh, and signature “Aww mayne!” made him unforgettable to everyone who crossed his path.

On May 31, 2025, at the age of 56, Wilbert transitioned unexpectedly, leaving behind a lifetime of memories filled with joy, laughter, and love.

Wilbert was full of life loud in spirit, hilarious in conversation, and deeply loyal to those he loved. If he said he was going to do something, you could count on it. He was always calling to check in, always had a joke ready, and always showed up when it mattered most.

He earned his GED from the University of Houston and went on to become a skilled welder. But outside of work, he was best known as “the barbecue man.” Whether on the side of the street or at family functions, his unforgettable barbecue brought people together. He sold plates whenever he got the chance and folks lined up for it. He is survived by his sons, Bandon Mosley and Robert (Shemickia) Upson, both of Houston, TX; his siblings, Gloria (Kwame) Albert, and Lawrence Mosley, both of Houston, TX, and Marcus Cooper of Crockett, TX; niece, Ashley McFadden; two nephews, Kameron Albert and Lawrence Mosley, Jr.; aunts, Willie Smith, Stella Roberts, Jackie Marshall, Carolyn Simon, Nora Murray, and Willie Jackson; uncles, Charles Platt, Joe Platt, Harold Platt, and Charles Walker; and a large extended family of cousins and loved ones.

He is preceded in death by his sister, the late Tiffany Cooper.

Wilbert’s legacy lives on in every shared memory, every laugh that echoes in his name, and every person he touched with his big heart and even bigger personality. To know Junebug Lil Dog was to love him.
