William Dwain Seagler

Dwain was born on February 5, 1943, in Palestine, Texas, to Austin and Ruth Seagler. He was the middle of 3 kids, but other than that he preferred to not be in the middle of much anything else. He always worked much harder than he would ever play. And as his family would later learn in piecemeal, that tenacious work ethic was perhaps what kept him out of the trouble and trauma that he had escaped by moving on, and that constant movement was not escape but deliverance nonetheless.

As most country folk know, their hobbies are often more work than their paid jobs and for Dwain it was no different. Weekend rodeos and fate brought him to meet his future wife, Sandy, where she would realize that rodeos were so apropos since she would be dealing with his bull for 60 more years to come. She was the rock and so much more that always held the line and the fort while Dwain always worked.

Dwain was primarily an inspector for employment, which took many forms and him across the globe from Alaska to the Suez Canal. At times, he ran his own businesses and once those were ran into the ground he went to work for the City of Houston until retirement in 2015.

He could often be found reading his Bible, which we were thankful for because how bad would it have been if he had NOT been reading Proverbs? He could build or fix anything, which was only ever impeded by his three boys’ apparent inability to hold something correctly. He taught his sons many things, but chiefly he instilled the moral value of work, integrity at all cost, and to keep your head up stoically through bad times but down in humility in good times.

He will be greatly missed and the lessons a redeemed man can teach with few words can live on beyond what he ever thought could. Because good always wins, the sun always rises and there is work to be done until the very end of one’s days. Dwain can finally rest easy, that is if he is not out mowing Heaven’s acreage on a tractor.

Dwain is preceded in death by son, Everett Seagler; sisters, Louise Luce and Carolyn Standley.

He leaves a loving wife of over 60 years, Sandy Seagler; two (2) sons, Chris Seagler (Elizabeth) and Terry Seagler all of Houston, Texas; three (3) grandchildren and one (1) great-grandchild.
