Bobbie Ivey

Bobbie Roy Ivey (90) passed peacefully in the presence of family on January 1, 2020. He was born October 20, 1929, in Grapeland, Texas and was the eldest of eight children cherished by Marvin Leroy Ivey and Gladys Yates Ivey. Bobbie grew up “on” San Pedro Creek in a loving Christian family. His childhood was full of joy and love of the outdoors. Hard work and hunting and fishing were everyday activities. Good times were shared with extended family. Cousins were as close as siblings, and aunts and uncles were respected and obeyed just like parents. In the Ivey-Yates clan, there were many! Bobbie left Grapeland when he enlisted in the Air Force to serve in the Korean Conflict. While stationed in Madison, Wisconsin he met and married Mary Stellone in 1953. After military service, he and Mary started their family in Madison. He worked in the construction industry there and later in the Houston area after moving Mary and their 7 children to Texas. In time, their family grew to eight children, eleven grandchildren, and fifteen great-grandchildren. After retirement, Bobbie was excited to return to Grapeland where he raised a few cows and rode horses whenever he pleased. He had a good sense of humor and made people laugh. He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-four years, Mary, and his two sons, Robert Wayne and Richard Allen. Left to cherish Bobbie’s memory are daughters Gladys Ivey, Cathy Carrig and Tom, Maria Mobley and Tim; daughter-in-law, Teresa Jones Ivey; sons, Chris Ivey, Michael Ivey and wife Debra, and Steve Ivey; grandchildren and step-grandchildren, Jason Ivey, Joshua Ivey, Jennifer McClanahan Leber, Gregory McClanahan, Amy Fulton Yokum, Jessica Ivey, Ryan Fulton, Misty Jones, John Garrison, Russell Ming and Charlsye Ming Hawks; and remaining siblings, Wayne Ivey of Hammon, OK; JoJuan Watson of Grapeland, Phabrice Scheidl of Atlanta, Georgia, Morris Ivey of Mansfield, and Ronnie Ivey of Grapeland. He will be remembered fondly by numerous nieces and nephews and their children, as well as dozens of cousins and their children. What a legacy.
