Donald Perkins

Donald Lee Perkins was born December 12, 1942, to Artie Lee Johnson and Audrey Mae Burns who preceded him in death. Donald was the fourth of ten children and was affectionately called “Sonny” by his siblings, family, and friends. Donald grew up in the Grapeland Community and graduated from W.R. Banks school where he played basketball and football. After graduation, Donald joined the United States Army and served his country in the Vietnam War. Upon Returning to Grapeland, he worked briefly at Vulcraft before relocating to Houston. It was then he began his faithful career with Houston Metro Transportation and would remain
there until his retirement in 1988. After retirement, Donald enjoyed traveling to visit his family and friends. At an early age, Donald accepted Christ and joined Brewington Baptist Church in the Augusta Community. He was honored later in life to serve and be a part of the Brewington Baptist Church Historical Committee. Prior to his failing health, Donald rededicated his life to Christ and joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Donald departed this life on Tuesday, January 14, 2020, with his loving family by his side. He was preceded in death by his parents, devoted companion Earline Johnson, brothers: Freddie C. and Paul Potts, sisters: Anner Houston and Bobbie Benton. Donald is survived by two children: Marcus Perkins of Houston, Tx and Chantine Tina Lacy (Eric) of Humble, Tx. Sisters: Fronesther Baker, Patricia Lawrie, and Marilyn
Walker (Rickey) all of Grapeland; Charles Stella Fry of Mississippi. Brothers: Robert Green and Theodore Holmes of Houston, 8 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, dedicated friend Maydine Hill, a host of loving nieces and nephews and his special adopted family of S.T.
