Vernon Collier

Vernon Texas Collier was born and raised in Vernon, TX on January 23, 1922, to the parents of Ruby and Ruth Collier. He and his 1 brother and 8 sisters helped their father tend the cotton fields, where they learned the value of hard work at a young age. This started a life-long love of gardening and harvesting multiple crops. Vernon married the love of his life, Ollie Melson, May 25, 1940. A beautiful 16-year-old girl married a hardworking 18-year-old man and throughout all these years, they made their love last. Together, they raised 2 sons and 2 daughters. On May 25, 2017, they celebrated their 77th year anniversary. After relocating a few times, they settled in Houston, TX where Vernon worked in construction for many years. He had a great love for carpentry and working with his hands. His favorite past times were fishing, hunting, gardening and spending time with family. “Papa” will always be remembered for the sparkle in his bright blue eyes and his love of holding and rocking his grandchildren. His love for his family and never-ending smile will remain in our hearts forever! God saw that he was tired and laid his hard-working hands to rest, proof to us all that He only takes the best. Left to cherish his memories is his loving wife, Ollie Collier; sons Dale wife Sylvia Collier, and Roger wife Hope Collier, both of Spring, TX; daughters Roxanne husband Ted Bradley, Tomball, TX and Vickie husband Tommy Sullivan, of Grapeland, TX; 11 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
